The NIGF holds at least three events per year across different locations in the North of England and Scotland. These events are open to anyone working in Data Protection and IT Security and provide a forum for networking and learning more about how other organisations are implementing improvements in this area.
Events usually last half a day and are themed around a specific topic area. In addition, online webinars and networking opportunities will also take place between face to face events.
Here’s a list of our planned events. Seats are limited so if you would like to attend, sign up by clicking on the Eventbrite link (when it is available) in the event description.
In this webinar, Ibrahim Hasan (solicitor and director of Act Now Training) shares his reflections and learnings from the past 36 months. Ibrahim will discuss the first three years of GDPR implementation and learning from fines in the UK, but also more widely across Europe and consider how GDPR and the DPA 2018 has changed as a result of Brexit and what to expect during 2021 and beyond. If you are interested in attending this event, which will be held at 2pm on Thursday 21st January and are not currently a member of NIGF, please get in touch - contact@nigf.org.uk
This networking session run by the NIGF Steering Committee, will allow members to debate the tricky issue of determining data controllers and data processors and assigning appropriate responsibilities based on these roles. Through breakout roooms, members will have the chance to chat with other information governance colleagues about these challenges and learn from each other on how best to determine these roles effectively and implement appropriate governance practices based on these. If you would like to attend this networking event, which will be held on Thursday 4th February at 2pm, but are not already a member, please get in touch at contact@nigf.org.uk
NIGF is pleased to welcome David Stone, Managing Director of Kaleidoscope Data Privacy Consultants, an organisation that specialises in supporting data protection and data sharing practices internationally, to explore the topical issue of Brexit and the potential impact on your organisations data protection practices.
The webinar will focus on the impact of the Schrems II decision on Brexit and what this means moving forward for data importers and data exporters from the UK. It will cover how controllers and processors will need to modify their risk assessments, legal bases for processing and privacy notices, as well as how the legal gateways for inbound and outbound flows from EEA and UK might be used in the future and will be helpful for any organisation who may be storing or sharing data within Europe and more widely. If you would like to attend this event, which will be held on Thursday 26th November at 2pm, but are not yet a member of NIGF please get in touch via contact@nigf.org.uk.
